Katie Anderson, MD PhD MSPH

Onondaga County Health Department

Dr. Anderson is a physician-scientist, an internist, and an epidemiologist with 20 years of experience researching emerging infectious diseases, focusing particularly on arboviral diseases. In this capacity, she has worked with the CDC, the US Army, and many academic institutions. She received her Master’s of Science in Public Health, and her MD and PhD in epidemiology from Emory University. Dr. Anderson has worked for several years as an internal medicine physician and as a federally-funded researcher conducting community-based research on emerging viral diseases.

She moved from Minnesota to Central New York in late 2019 to lead SUNY Upstate’s Center for International Research–within the Upstate Global Health Institute. Dr. Anderson was quickly pulled into the response to SARS-CoV-2 at the institutional and community level. She began her role as County Health Commissioner in Onondaga County in early November 2022. Dr. Anderson is proud to work with the Health Department in tackling diverse health threats such as lead, opioids, health access, and health disparities.
